Question by patriotic21: Vancouver or Edmonton for vacation tourism?
I live in Los Angeles and I am thinking in driving in to Canada, but which one is closer? Also, which one has more tourist attractions and is more tourist friendly? Also, how far is Toronto from these citys? thank you

LA to Vancouver. 1,276 mi – about 22 hours (I-5 north, almost straight)
LA to Edmonton. 1,728 mi – about 1 day 4 hours (Utah, Idaho, Montana, Alberta)
LA to Toronto is 2,520 mi – about 1 day 16 hours (traveling through the central US, crossing at Detroit)
Vancouver is about a full day from Edmonton which is about two and a half days from Toronto.

Note: driving times are solid, so after 12-15 hours, you’ll need to consider a hotel. I’ve done San Franciso to Vancouver in a (long) day.

Other than LA to Vancouver, I wouldn’t want to do any of these drives during the winter.

Vancouver is much larger than Edmonton. Both have some interesting attractions. Vancouver has ski resorts, ocean activities, lots of outdoor places, large museums and art galleries, theatres, a lot better restraunts (lots of ethnic foods, a good sized China town), parks, lakes, beaches, some good clubs, etc. It is also close to Victoria if you want a day trip or spend a night there. Edmonton does have the West Edmonton mall, but it doesn’t get nearly as many tourists. If you are thinking Edmonton, you might as well stop in Calgary in the way.

Both cities are pretty friendly. Vancouver perhaps a little more tourist friendly, but Alberta is known for hospitality.
